Buster
After Tommy started with agility it did not last long before we decided to get a second border collie. After some research we found a breeder, Hanneke Bethlem, in Friesche-Palen, a little village in the north of the Netherlands. Before Buster was born, we went there to take a look and the feeling was good right away. On February 20, 1994 Buster was born. Buster walked through the obedience courses easily but he missed the big action, during the lessons he regularly fell asleep only to return to the real world when Tommy was busy running agility courses, there was no way to calm him down. When he finally could start agility himself, the trips to the training were not really quiet anymore. Our first two seasons competing in first grade were very frustrating, Buster was very driven, like me, but there was no click between the two of us, I could not handle such a powerful dog. I continued persevering and worked with better trainers and finally we had the click we needed. In one season we made it from fist grade to third grade. Luck was not with us, and an injury to Buster's wrist meant the end of his career in agility. Because Buster was still very young, we started to work with sheep. He was good at it but in that time he got another two injuries. Despite all these setbacks Buster remained a very cheerful and sweet dog with a great will to please. I've learned a lot trying to handle such a great dog. Buster deceased on May 18, 2007.
